DASD Huddleston Talks to the Press
Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Vicki Huddleston visited the Democratic Republic of Congo on October 26-30. After arriving in Kinshasa, where she met with representatives of the DRC government, UN officials and other members of the international community, Ambassador Huddleston traveled to Kisangani and Goma to consult Congolese, American and international officials working together on Security Sector Reform (SSR) in the DRC. During her visit to Goma, Ambassador Huddleston presented $6 million worth of medical supplies to HEAL AFRICA to aid victims of sexual violence. Upon her return to Kinshasa, Ambassador Huddleston held a briefing with members of the local press, during which she emphasized the U.S. government’s commitment to working with DRC authorities to fighting sexual and gender-based violence and ending impunity. She also described the various training programs supported and implemented by the U.S. government to help the Forces Armées de la Republique Democratique du Congo (FARDC) become more professional, effective and law-abiding
