Graig Cloud presents the award of 500$ to Ms. Mumbu

On Thursday November 5, the fifth Mark Twain Prize was awarded to Marie-Louise “Bibish” Mumbu for her story “Moi et Mon Cheveu.”  The ceremony took place at the residence of Public Affairs Officer Katya Thomas.  Management Counselor and Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Craig Cloud presented the award of $500.  During her remarks, Ms. Mumbu thanked the U.S. Embassy in Kinshasa for promoting Congolese literature, and urged her own government to increase its support of cultural programs.  The Mark Twain Prize will be awarded to one more monthly winner this year.  A Grand Prize Winner will be selected among the six winners, and receive $1,000.  The final deadline for manuscripts is November 15, 2009.
