USAID Opens Two Training Resource Centers in the DRC
On June 28, 2011, USAID inaugurated the second USAID-funded center for the training of educational professionals for primary, secondary, and vocational institutions in Bandundu. The first such center was inaugurated on June 13, 2011 in Mbandaka, Equateur Province, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). These Training Resource Centers were built and equipped through a $40 million project entitled the “Package for Improving Education Quality (PAQUED)”. The project’s approach is based on a combination of interactive programs through radio, video, and printed materials, and promises to have a positive impact on the quality of education in the DRC. The U.S. Ambassador to DRC, James F. Entwistle, attended the inauguration ceremony in Mbandaka, Equateur Province, and the Deputy Chief of Mission, Samuel Laeuchli, attended the inauguration in Bandundu. The DRC Minister of Education, Maker Mwangu, attended both inaugurations.
