Non-Immigrant Visas
Consular Section, Embassy of the United States of America
Step 1: Please read carefully on our website instructions of the non-immigrant visa handouts for tourism/business, student or medical care. Complete the electronic visa application form DS-160 on-line. Applications will not be accepted unless completed on the electronic form. A French version is available on our website. Applicants may only make an appointment by entering the bar code number from the electronic application form. Applicants whose application forms are incomplete will not be able to have a visa interview, and will be asked to make another appointment after they have completed the required forms.
Step 2: Upload a recent photo (taken within the past six months) to the application. Photo specifications can be found at: Photograph Requirements.
Step 3: Gather the required documents: (1) a passport valid for more than six months beyond the intended stay in the United States, (2) all passports with previous U.S. visas, even if expired, (3) your electronic visa application (DS-160) confirmation sheet (with clearly-printed barcode), (4) your appointment confirmation sheet and (5) supporting documents for your non-immigrant visa application.
Step 4: Make an appointment by clicking here. Please have your barcode handy. Please insert by default the following receipt number: 1001. You may only schedule one appointment per person. If you are a traveling group or family, please schedule one appointment for each person.
Step 5: Pay the visa processing fee of $140 at Citigroup, at the intersection of Avenue Ngongo-Lutete and Avenue Colonel Lukusa in Gombe, Monday, Wednesday, or Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. If the visa is issued, Congolese citizens will have to pay $150 for one month visa and $250 for a 3-month visa. The reciprocity visa fee schedule will be applied for all nationalities. You may find the visa reciprocity schedule at Visa Issuance Fee - Reciprocity Tables.
Step 6: Go to the Embassy Consular Section at the time specified on your appointment confirmation page. Please make sure to bring all the documents listed in step 3. All persons and property entering the U.S. Embassy are subject to search for security purposes. After inspection, mobile telephones may be checked at the entrance to the Embassy, but may not be brought inside.
Step 7: If qualified for a non-immigrant visa, pay the reciprocity visa fee in U.S. dollars to the cashier. The cashier at the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Kinshasa can only accept your payment via cash in U.S. currency or credit card. Unlike Acceptance Facilities located in the United States, he/she cannot accept personal checks.
Step 8: Generally speaking, the passport will be returned on the day following the visa interview. Pick up time is from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays and from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Fridays. Technical or other difficulties may extend the time required to complete the visa; please apply for your non-immigrant visa well in advance of your intended time of travel.
Step 9: If spots are not available on the NIV appointment system online, and you have urgent business or medical travel, you may send an email at AEKinshasaConsular@state.gov to request an expedited appointment. You should explain the nature of your emergency.
