Acclaimed Actress and Activist Ashley Judd Visits the Democratic Republic of the Congo

On April 30th, 2008, internationally renowned movie star Ashley Judd arrived in DRC to learn more about Population Services International's programs (PSI). Ms. Judd, a board member of PSI, and global ambassador for "YouthAIDS" and "Five and Alive", PSI's HIV prevention and child survival programs, spent 7 days in DRC learning about the health issues the country is facing as well as about effective interventions that have the potential to improve the health and well being of the Congolese. In the DRC, PSI works through its local affiliate, Association de Santé Familiale (ASF). Ms. Judd's visit focused on a number of family planning, malaria, HIV and safe water activities implemented by ASF in partnership with the DRC Ministry of Health. Ms. Judd is committed to lending her voice and celebrity to raise awareness of health issues globally, and to advocating for increased resources to support programs which work to improve the health of vulnerable populations.
